8am       Breakfast Seminar: Creating a Workplace to Attract and Retain Employees

                Gerald Walsh

In this thought-provoking presentation, Gerry tackles the most pressing business challenge facing employers today: how to get and keep good employees.

The most troubling news for employers is that a growing labour shortage, shifting demographics, an improving economy, and changing attitudes toward work, means this problem is not likely to get better anytime soon.

But why do certain companies succeed in hiring and keeping talented employees while others struggle with that same task?

Drawing upon his own unique experiences recruiting for leading employers as well as studying the ‘best practices’ of some of North America’s most-respected employers, Gerry delivers a powerful and clear answer to this question: the RESPECT Workplace Model, a series of employee-focused workplace strategies that will help employers gain a competitive advantage in this war for talent.

Many employers use compensation as their principal tool to influence the recruitment and retention of employees.  However, Gerry’s RESPECT Workplace Model suggests that offering money alone is not the best answer.  Rather, a combination of tools should be used including: employee recognition programs, meaningful work, life-work balance, corporate social responsibility, a commitment to the environment, professional development, personal well-being initiatives, as well as money.  Using clear examples of both good and bad practices, Gerry challenges the audience to think strategically about their own recruitment and retention activities, and offers practical and simple advice on how to overcome today’s most pressing business problem.
