For example, one of the largest employers in Nova Scotia Michelin North America is successful using this program today. In 2009 Dr. Howatt was nominated by Michelin for an Atlantic Canada Human Resource Strategic Partnership Award. Today this program is a standalone program. Structured mentoring is as strategic process that can be used for several strategic reasons such as: facilitates knowledge transfer, develops leaders, and engages employees, on-boarding new hires, building and preserving organizational intelligence, succession planning and promoting accountability. Today, human capital is becoming an increasingly important asset. Using the principals of structure mentoring program can assist organizational leaders build employee loyalty, strengthen cultures, and develop competency. Presentation: Dr. Howatt will introduce structure mentoring the methodology and how the program works. Then he will spend the day examining the skills to be an effective mentor. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the types of knowledge and skills that will assist a mentor to be effective. 9:00 – 5:00 GAAP and CAS Review and Update – Glen Schmidt GAAP and CAS Review and Update is designed for individuals preparing or reviewing corporate financial or individual statements and for those who need an overall update and refresher course on aspects of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) Canadian auditing standards (CAS). The seminar will also cover recent Handbook changes as well as current exposure draft(s). It will also cover a number of current IASB projects which may impact on GAAP standards in future. This skill-building seminar is interactive: major sections of the CICA Handbook are explored through teaching and group discussion, and the areas covered will be adapted to the participant mix. Participants will increase their working knowledge of GAAP and CAS. Note the emphasis of the presentation will focus on GAAP. Who should attend?
