9am – 5pm            Conceptual Framework, IFRS 1 and IFRS Financial Statements
Glen Schmidt, FCGA

We now know where we are going as it relates to accounting for entities under Parts I to IV of the CICA Handbook. But if you are unclear of your starting point, it makes the transition to the new standards very difficult, especially considering the high level of professional judgment in the new standards. IFRS, ASPE and NFP all share a conceptual framework which is common but not exactly the same. This seminar will focus on the IFRS conceptual framework, the options available under both the framework and IFRS1 First Time Adoption and then review the financial statements of a number of Canadian companies using the IFRS to demonstrate the various models, options being selected and the effects on financial statements.

This session will be of interest to those employed in corporate accounting and the preparation of financial statements of companies preparing financial statements under Part I of the Handbook, IFRS, as well as public practitioners.

What you will learn:

        • The IFRS conceptual framework with reference to how it impacts ASPE and NFP
        • Options under IFRS 1 (some of which are also available under ASPE and GAAP for NFP)
        • Current trends in first time adoption options by a sample of Canadian companies

9am – 12pm            Retirement Planning – Andrew McNeil

Planning for retirement encompasses giving thought to lifestyle expectations and choices. It also involves setting realistic goals and constructing a plan to achieve retirement dreams. The session on the 17th will include an update on current market conditions and perspective, as well as considerations on retirement planning, estate planning, CPP changes and retirement transition.

                                      Who Should Attend?

This workshop is designed for individuals and couples who are within seven years of retirement and are ready to review their options and plan for their future. It provides couples an excellent opportunity to share their ideas and expectations for retirement.
