Member Awards
1. Life Membership
The "Life Membership" award is an honorary distinction conferred by the Certified General Accountants' Association of Nova Scotia on a member who has rendered exceptional service to the Association, to the profession, or to society in general. Both professional and social or humanitarian contributions are recognized equally, in recognition of the distinction brought to the Association through the accomplishments of its members.
Candidates may be nominated by any five members in good standing. The nomination form must be completed in full and submitted to the Awards Committee.
2. John Leslie National Award
Created in honour of CGA-Canada’s founder and first president, was designed to recognize the achievements of exceptional CGAs. It is given to a member who has achieved national recognition for exceptional service to business, the community, politics and the arts, or who has overcome physical adversity. Such recognition is responsive to current accomplishments permitting an adequate public relations acknowledgement.
The John Leslie Award will be conferred to one individual per year, although not necessarily every year. Nominations may be submitted by the CGA-Canada Executive Committee; any individual member in good standing of the Association; any member of the public or any representative of a community group, business association, educational body, private company or corporation.
Please note that the deadline for nominations is January 31 of each year.
3. Fellowship (FCGA) Award
The Fellowship Award was designed to recognize members who provide exemplary service to the Association, the profession or the public, or achieve prominence through a variety of means. To be eligible for the Fellowship Award, individuals must be Certified members in good standing who have been admitted into membership at least two years before their nomination for the Fellowship award.
Nominations may be submitted by Provincial/Territorial Associations or by any five Certified members in good standing and must be received by March 31 of each year.
Student Awards
1. Cheryl Llewellyn Achievement Scholarship
Named in memory of a past member of the CGA Nova Scotia Board of Directors, the Cheryl Llewellyn Achievement Scholarship is awarded annually to the Nova Scotian student who achieves the highest mark for a first time writer of the Auditing 1 course. The winner of the scholarship receives the course fee (including taxes) of one higher level course of their choice.
2. Jean-Claude Richard Memorial Award
In memory of a past executive director, the Atlantic region will give each year, a $300 cash award to the student(s) who obtain the highest mark in the third level finance and fourth level taxation examinations.
3. National Awards of Excellence
Beginning with the 1996/97 year, the National Association will grant the CGA Canada Awards of Excellence for academic excellence in each of the first four levels of studies. The Awards are accompanied by a $1000 cash award. An Award of Excellence will be given at the professional level accompanied by a $1500 cash award.
4. The AXA Boreal Insurance Award
The AXA Boreal Insurance Company will present a yearly cash award to three students who have achieved academic excellence in the public practice courses.
5. CGA Nova Scotia Professional Scholarships
The CGA Nova Scotia Professional Scholarships are awarded annually to deserving post-secondary graduates in Nova Scotia who wish to enroll in the CGA Program of Professional Studies. Two scholarships of up to $1000 each are available – one for university applicants and one for those completing their studies at a Nova Scotia Community College.
